Happy Birthday Evan!
On this day August 3rd, 1985 a quiet young baby boy was born in Wangaratta, Victoria. 37 years, 6 trips to Europe, 2 to the USA and countless laps around Australia later, that baby is now a Husband, Father, Friend and clean food provider for his community in the small town of Rainbow.
While this may paint the idealistic picture, life goes up and down in stages and cycles. Evan has had lifelong and ongoing struggles crippling Anxiety and Depression, being victimised by bullies (easy target) and many serious health concerns, culminating in self-healing from dozens of widespread Cancer tumours in 2020-2021.
Needless to say Evan is grateful every morning he wakes up to enjoy another day Gardening and raising his Family. Gardening and growing plants is Evan’s gift to the world, closely followed by music and eventually his children.
The perfect birthday gift for this quiet man is a full order book for this Friday’s deliveries. We would love to see a host of new customers alongside our faithful regulars. Playing bass with The Go Set a few weeks ago was another birthday gift which Evan really cherished.
See you on Friday.
Notes from the Garden
We have been busy tidying up in the Greenhouse, which is currently full of Butterhead Lettuce in anticipation of planting our first Summer crops of 2022-23. We are growing a lot more tomatoes this year and have received our mix of heirloom seeds in the mail. We can now save and replant our tomatoes each year, developing what is known as a “landrace” meaning the seeds are adapted to our climate, soils and gardens specifically. A landrace is typically a very strong plant and we look forward sharing ours with grandchildren many decades in the future.
We are in the middle of a Leaf week in the Lunar Calendar. In the Nursery we seeded trays of Spinach, Bok Choi, Lettuce, Kale, Rainbow Chard and are Transplanting beds of Spinach, Kale, Lettuce and Rainbow Chard in the production beds. We also pruned our Tagasaste hedges and planted a hedge of them for our neighbour.
As we have harvested almost half a bed of Beetroots we are offering Blemmy Beetroots @ $10/kg. “Blemmy’s” are our range of vegetables that are not quite the right shape or size but still taste delicious.
Our latest batch of Gardenkraut is also ready and available.
The latest Sunshine Salve is ready! Our new jars are 2.5 x the size of our previous jars so we have raised the price but increased the value for money. There are less than 20 available this time around as we are reserving quite a bit for our growing family. The larger jars will last a very long time, likely more than a year for most people.
We have new packaging for our Herbal Supplements. Our new jars contain a 3 month supply of 100 capsules compared to 50 and offer better value for money.
We have changed over from Beef Liver Capsules to Beef Organ Capsules. These contain Beef Liver, Heart and Kidneys blended together and provide an even more beneficial nutritional profile than just Liver alone.
A reminder that some of our range is limited so please get your orders in quickly to secure your desired organic vegetables.
This week the Garden is providing Spinach (Limited), Broccoli (Limited) Red Russian Kale (limited) Sugar Snap Peas(Limited), Capsicums, Lettuce, Bok Choi, Carrots, Blemmy Beetroots, Coriander (Limited) and Parsley.
Crops currently growing but not ready this week are Celery and Red Cabbage.
