You may or may not be aware that Evan was a touring musician in a past life, in fact Evan proposed to Jill mid-set, on stage at the Northcote Social Club. We had an excellent weekend, filling in on bass guitar for The Go Set while their current bass player was away. Jill and Evan packed up the car immediately after deliveries on Friday and drove down to the coast for one last getaway before our new baby arrives and life gets even busier.
We had a fantastic time catching up with band mates, friends and fans and Evan got his musical therapy kick to keep his creative energies flowing. Music is a huge part of our lives, almost as big as gardening and we were very grateful for one of our very brief and infrequent holidays. We even managed to wild forage some Plantain for our medicinal herb gardens on the way home.
Notes from the Garden
Our first Broccoli heads have formed and will be available this week in 500 g bags of various sized florets.
Last week was a Stop Week in the Lunar Calendar ending this coming Thursday. We obviously took the weekend off but have also been weeding, organising sheds, fixing trellis wire and have nearly finished assembling our latest and largest ever compost pile.
Most of our early Summer seeds have now germinated in the Nursery. We should have Summer crops available again from early October this year, as opposed to December/January last year. Our Nursery skills are growing with the business.
As we have harvested almost half a bed of Beetroots we are offering Blemmy Beetroots @ $10/kg. “Blemmy’s” are our range of vegetables that are not quite the right shape or size but still taste delicious.
Our latest batch of Gardenkraut is also ready and available.
The latest Sunshine Salve is ready! Our new jars are 2.5 x the size of our previous jars so we have raised the price but increased the value for money. There are less than 20 available this time around as we are reserving quite a bit for our growing family. The larger jars will last a very long time, likely more than a year for most people.
We have new packaging for our Herbal Supplements. Our new jars contain a 3 month supply of 100 capsules compared to 50 and offer better value for money.
We have changed over from Beef Liver Capsules to Beef Organ Capsules. These contain Beef Liver, Heart and Kidneys blended together and provide an even more beneficial nutritional profile than just Liver alone.

This week the Garden is providing Spinach (Limited), Broccoli (Limited) Red Russian Kale (limited) Sugar Snap Peas(Limited), Capsicums, Lettuce, Bok Choi, Carrots, Blemmy Beetroots and Parsley.
Crops currently growing but not ready this week are Coriander, Celery and Red Cabbage.

- Small florets can be snacked on raw although large amounts of raw broccoli is generally not recommended
