Frosty Mornings = Delicious Winter Vegetables!
Although we do prefer the warmer weather with its vine ripened Tomatoes, juicy Cucumbers, Green Beans and Zucchini’s, Winter also provides its own unique, seasonal delights. Essentially anything that is not killed by a frost will be sweetened by its chilling effects. This makes Winter the best time to enjoy Spinach, Sugar Snap Peas, Carrots, Lettuce, Celery, Kale, Rainbow Chard and even Parsley has a delightful, sweet undertone. Enjoy your greens when they are at their peak, which will last until the weather starts to turn in September.
Notes from the Garden
Last week was a Root Week in the Lunar Calendar ending yesterday. Currently we are growing the following root crops, Garlic, Onions, Beetroot and Carrots. In light of this we hand weeded our Garlic beds, direct seeded a new bed of Carrots, sowed trays of Beetroots in the Nursery and fully harvested an older bed of Beetroots, more on this below.
Some of our early Summer seeds have already germinated in the Nursery. We were unsure if the temperatures in an unheated greenhouse would be high enough to germinate Tomatoe and Capsicum seeds in July but evidently they are! Look forward to much ealier Summer delights later this year.
As we have harvested almost half a bed of Beetroots we are offering Blemmy Beetroots @ $10/kg. “Blemmy’s” are our range of vegetables that are not quite the right shape or size but still taste delicious.
Our latest batch of Gardenkraut is also ready and available.
The latest Sunshine Salve is ready! Our new jars are 2.5 x the size of our previous jars so we have raised the price but increased the value for money. There are less than 20 available this time around as we are reserving quite a bit for our growing family. The larger jars will last a very long time, likely more than a year for most people.
We have changed over from Beef Liver Capsules to Beef Organ Capsules. These contain Beef Liver, Heart and Kidneys blended together and provide an even more beneficial nutritional profile than just Liver alone.
A reminder that some of our range is limited so please get your orders in quickly to secure your desired organic vegetables.
This week the Garden is providing Spinach (Limited), Celery (Limited) Red Russian Kale (limited) Sugar Snap Peas(Limited), Capsicums, Lettuce, Bok Choi, Carrots, Blemmy Beetroots and Parsley.
Crops currently growing but not ready this week are Coriander, Broccoli and Red Cabbage.
