Another Market and Garlic, Garlic, Garlic
This Saturday November 28 we will again be holding our Open Farm Market Stall 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. Come on down for a detailed look around the farm, conversation with us and other customers and of course our locally grown vegetables, herbs, skin salves, local honey and pasture raised eggs.
This week the time was right to harvest our annual Garlic crop. We grew around 1400 bulbs of “Tasmanian Purple” which we sourced from another Biodynamic farm in Victoria. We are huge fans of Garlic and cook with it all the time and now have a nice looking harvest hanging to cure under an east facing veranda. These will be ready in about a month and we will then put some aside to plant next year and bag the rest up for sale over the rest of the year. We look forward to offering Garlic to our customers as a great addition to our range of local produce.
We love Garlic and cook with it every day.
We also processed 30kg of Salad Mix yesterday, which is by far our biggest greens harvest ever. The Salad Mix will be going out to cafes, restaurants, our retail outlets and of course available from our website, farm store and Open Farm Market Stall.
We will also soon be launching Home Deliveries for residents of Portland! We have received a lot of interest after inquiring online. Deliveries will be every Thursday and could start as early as December 5. Watch this space for more details.
Our produce is available year round at Food For Thought in Mount Gambier as well as Willow & Bean in Portland who also feature our produce on their menu.
We also supply produce to the Bayside Cafe in Portland and the Nelson Hotel.

Notes From The Garden
At Rainbow OMG we recognise the centuries long tradition of Moon Planting. In short the different phases of the Moon correspond to growth in in different parts of plants with about 7 days for each phase. The order is Leaf, Fruit/Flower, Root and Stop. We find this cycle an excellent tool for planning and scheduling of all the regular tasks needed for a functional farm.
We are currently in a Leaf week. We managed to get the second end wall up in our Polytunnel as well as moving and revamping our wash station. We have direct seeded more Salad Mix, Rocket, Coriander and Parsley, transplanted Spring Onions, Basil, Bok Choi and Butterhead Lettuce and sown more seeds in the Nursery.
