Rainbow OMG Weekly Post 19/11/25

Pivoting to Move Forward

October and November have been very productive and reflective times for us at Rainbow OMG. We have taken some time in between the daily grind of farming to assess the current state of our business and where we need to focus our attention in order to develop to the point where we can fully support our family from the business without needing outside employment.

Other than the last 6 months Evan has worked part-time, off farm over the 5 or so years that we have been operating. This meant working 6-7 days a week all year, with little to no holidays taken in that period.

In light of all the above we have decided to no longer regularly attend the Mount Gambier Farmers Market and will instead continue our Open Farm Market Stall every second Saturday 10:00 am -1:00 pm the next being November 29.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to the Mount Gambier Farmers Market organisers and all the loyal customers we met along the journey. Our time at the market enabled us to get our name out in Mount Gambier and we look forward to continue to serve our customers into the future.

We will also soon be launching Home Deliveries for residents of Portland! We have received a lot of interest after inquiring online. Deliveries will be every Thursday and could start as early as December 5. Watch this space for more details.

Our produce is available year round at Food For Thought in Mount Gambier as well as Willow & Bean in Portland who also feature our produce on their menu.

We also supply produce to the Bayside Cafe in Portland and the Nelson Hotel.

Notes From The Garden

At Rainbow OMG we recognise the centuries long tradition of Moon Planting. In short the different phases of the Moon correspond to growth in in different parts of plants with about 7 days for each phase. The order is Leaf, Fruit/Flower, Root and Stop. We find this cycle an excellent tool for planning and scheduling of all the regular tasks needed for a functional farm.

We are currently in a Stop Week and are using this break in planting to finish our Polytunnel, overhaul our website and sales software and develop the back end of our upcoming Home Deliveries.

Product Focus – Pasture Raised Eggs
1 Dozen Pasture Raised Eggs 800g

We source these amazing eggs from Providore Farm in Narrawong, South-West Victoria. Zac and Alana Jeffries started their farm in 2015, driven by a commitment to producing premium, ethical food for their community and wholesale partners who value quality over volume.

Their hens are truly pasture-raised. They live in mobile sheds that move regularly across the farm, ensuring they always have access to fresh pasture. They stock at just 156 birds per hectare – a stark contrast to the industry standard of 10,000 birds per hectare under the “free-range” label. This low density results in healthier birds and richly coloured yolks that customers can see and taste.

We love these eggs and know you will too.
