That’s a lot of Garlic
This year has certainly provided us with a lot of challenges. We have lost entire beds of transplants to earwigs, rain has smashed emerging seedlings to pieces and insects of some sort have been ravaging our seedlings in the Greenhouse. This is part of the stimulating challenge of natural farming, one must use your brain to figure out solutions to whatever mother nature throws at you. Thankfully this year our Garlic suffered none of these problems, we pulled the whole crop on Monday laying them flat in the beds to dry out in the sun. Later today we will tie the roughly 1300 plants into small bundles and hang them upside-down to cure. We will have bags of Garlic available in our store once the curing process is complete.
Please note that we will not be operating next week as we take our only holiday for the year so please stock up this week and we will be back with ripe tomatoes before you know it.

Notes From The Garden
As stated above we will be away on holiday all of next week so this week has been a huge push to get the farm planted and ready for caretakers to keep alive while we have some well earned Rest and Relaxation. This is a Root Week in the Lunar Calendar so we have direct seeded Carrots and Beetroots, thinned previously seeded Beetroots, cropped out our Garlic and planted Ginger and Turmeric.
The latest Sunshine Salve is ready! Our new jars are 2.5 x the size of our previous jars so we have raised the price but increased the value for money. There are less than 20 available this time around as we are reserving quite a bit for our growing family. The larger jars will last a very long time, likely more than a year for most people.
A reminder that some of our range is limited so please get your orders in quickly to secure your desired organic vegetables.
This week the Garden is providing Eggs, Butterhead Lettuce, Rainbow Chard, Spinach, Sugar Snap Peas, Celery, Red Russian Kale, Carrots, Coriander and Parsley.
Crops currently growing but not ready are Beetroots, Bok Choi, Tomatoes, Capsicums, Cucumbers, Corn, Green Beans, Zucchini and Basil.
Product Focus: Gardenkraut
Most people are familiar with Sauerkraut which is a traditional side dish made of fermented cabbage. However did you know that almost any vegetable can be fermented? Gardenkraut is our own take on the traditional recipe and is made with whatever the garden is providing when we make it. This Gardenkraut is made with Red Cabbage, Carrots and Beetroots.
Fermented Vegetables should be considered a superfood. The lacto-fermentation process transforms vegetables into a very potent Probiotic, providing the following health benefits:
- Reduced overall inflammation
- Improvement of digestive disorders like leaky gut syndrome, ulcerative colitis, IBS and pouchitis
- Improved immunity
- Better nutrient absorption
- Prevention and treatment of diarrhea
- Prevention and symptom reduction of food allergies, including lactose intolerance, milk protein allergy and others
- Improvement of high blood pressure
- Reduced risk of cancer
- Alleviation of arthritis inflammation
- Reduction of eczema symptoms
- Lowered cholesterol
- Protection against H. pylori infection
- Better immune response in HIV/AIDS patients
- Improved vaginal health and prevention of bacterial infections like UTIs and bacterial vaginosis
- Natural remedy for the liver/brain disease hepatic encephalopathy
Fermented vegetables should be kept refrigerated. Order your Gardenkraut today.
