Rainbow OMG Weekly Post 08/06/22

Spinach Seedlings

Hello Rainbow OMGers,

We have had our first frost for the year. It was light and only on some of our woodchip paths but the cold is here and settled in for the next few months.

Eating seasonally allows us to look forward to the cold as it brings extra sweetness to our Spinach, Lettuce, Sugar Snap Peas, Rainbow Chard and Bok Choi. I am sure that Carrots will also further sweeten during this period.

Last week was a Leaf week in the Lunar Calendar which is always our busiest week for transplanting, direct seeding and seeding trays in the Nursery. This time around we transplanted Spinach, Lettuce and Rainbow Chard, direct seeded Coriander and seeded trays of Lettuce, Spinach and Bok Choi.

The picture above is of Spinach seedlings about to be transplanted. As you can see we had mixed growth rates across the trays which just means extra care is needed when transplanting.
In light of the cold weather, we have removed our tomatoes from the webstore. We will most likely have vines growing through Winter inside our Greenhouse however we can’t guarantee that the Tomatoes will ripen. Keeping the vines alive through Winter should allow us to hit the ground running with tomatoes as soon as the weather heats up slightly as the full size vines will just start to produce again. We will let you all know as soon as Tomatoes are back in stock.

A reminder that some of our range is limited so please get your orders in quickly to secure your desired organic vegetables.

This week the Garden is providing, Capsicums, Lettuce, Bok Choi, Carrots, Beetroots, Zucchini (Limited), Basil, Rainbow Chard, Cucumbers (Limited) and Parsley.

We have now sold out of Gardenkraut however we will ferment a new batch as soon as we can.

Crops currently growing but not ready this week are Sugar Snap Peas, Celery, Coriander, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Red Cabbage, Red Russian Kale and Spinach
