Rainbow OMG Weekly Post 16/02/22

Hello Rainbow OMGers,

Wednesday has delivered a mild, overcast day for some relief from the recent heat. We took full advantage of the cooler weather and turned one of our compost piles which was made with a mixture of weeds, dry grass and horse manure. The pile needed a turn and some extra water to keep the process activated. Composting is an art and a science, the more piles you make, the more you learn and the better you get at it.

Growing nutrient dense vegetables exports a lot from our soils and composting is the key to our fertility programme. We top dress our beds with thick layer compost and rock minerals and earthworms, fungi and soil microorganisms incorporate it into the soil on our behalf. This is called “No-Dig” gardening, the only tillage implement we regularly use is a broadfork.

All crops survived the heat and are looking very healthy and delicious. Our cherry tomatoes are particularly sweet.

As we scale up our CSA it is great to know what we can provide our Members all year.

This week we have a lot of Zucchini’s, Beefsteak Tomatoes, Cherry Tomatoes. Basil, Bok Choi, Rainbow Chard, Cucumbers, Beetroots, Butterhead Lettuce and Parsley .

Crops currently growing but not ready this week are Green Beans, Carrots and Capsicums.

We will start fermenting a new Gardenkraut today.

In the meantime we source Organic Moringa in bulk and make a supplements in capsules as a simple remedy for regular consumption. We combine Organic Moringa with Organic Turmeric, Kakadu Plum, Chlorella and Black Pepper. Kakadu Plum is Australian Bush Tucker and contains 200 x the Vitamin C of Oranges!
