Rainbow OMG Weekly Post 02/02/22

Hello Rainbow OMGers,

We thank the rain received on Australia Day last week, we had a small family BBQ to enjoy the day. A few days ago we picked two fully ripe beefsteak tomatoes, they were hot from the Sun and were hands down the most delicious tomatoes we have ever eaten. It is impossible to buy tomatoes this good off anyone other than a local gardener and we are very proud to provide such produce to our community.

The cold change blew in yesterday marking another cool start to February, perhaps we are in for a third cool Summer in row? Either way our Butterhead Lettuce is confused by the changing temperatures and many have bolted. They are still available but we have suffered quite a few losses. We are very much learning as we go with some varieties which is part of the fun of growing vegetables, you never stop learning.

This week we have 1 x Beefsteak Tomatoes, Cherry Tomatoes. Basil, Bok Choi (these are huge), Rainbow Chard, Cucumbers, Beetroots, Green Beans, Butterhead Lettuce and some Coriander

Crops currently growing but not ready this week are Zucchini, Carrots and Capsicums.

We will start fermenting another a new Gardenkraut very soon.

Vegetable Focus: Bok Choi

Bok Choi, also known as Asian Greens are from the Brassica family of vegetable which also include Broccoli, Cabbage, Mustard etc. Our Bok Choi’s are much larger than those normally available in stores. • Assists in prevention and treatment of Cancer due as they contain glucosinolates which are sulfur-containing chemicals that when digested create other compounds such as  indole, nitrile and sulforaphane which are proven to prevent and treat cancer. Yes there are other ways to treat cancer than chemotherapy.
