21 kg of Spinach
Yesterday the clouds parted and the wind died down so we took the opportunity to harvest our four Spinach beds and it was obvious from the start that this was going to be a sizable return. Our Spinach beds have roughly 350 plants per bed and we harvest them with scissors taking off all the outer leaves of each plant leaving around 3 leaves behind to regrow for the next cut. It is a time consuming task but it one of the key reasons why our Spinach is crunchy, delicious and lasts a very, very long time without going bad.
We ended up with more than 21 kg on our drying racks which is now bagged up into retail and wholesale amounts in our coolroom fridge. In the past it has been daunting to see this much product without knowing where we would sell it however, we may have secured a new restaurant account in Mount Gambier and a lot of this Spinach is destined for their kitchen. Spinach is also one of our best selling items at the Mount Gambier Farmers Market and at our retail fridge at Food For Thought.
We love growing Spinach for our community, the quality far exceeds anything else available locally. Spinach is however a cool season crop and is only available for about half of the year so we encourage our customers to enjoy it while it lasts and to even put some away for Summer by blanching and freezing for later use.
Thank you Spinach for your seasonal abundance, we love growing you.
Customers are welcome to come and visit the farm to take a look and purchase vegetables and supplements Monday to Saturday between 11:00 am and 6:00 pm.
Our produce is available year round at Food For Thought in Mount Gambier where you can find a wide range of healthy products to compliment our vegetables and are featured on the menu at the Nelson Hotel.
We are actively seeking a retail outlet in Portland to extend our reach in the local region.
Look out for official farm tours coming soon!
As always you can support our family and business by purchasing our supplements which are available 24/7 from our websit and can be posted anywhere in the world.

Notes From The Garden
At Rainbow OMG we recognise the centuries long tradition of Moon Planting. In short the different phases of the Moon correspond to growth in in different parts of plants with about 7 days for each phase. The order is Leaf, Fruit/Flower, Root and Stop. We find this cycle an excellent tool for planning and scheduling of all the regular tasks needed for a functional farm.
We are currently in a Root Week so will be direct seeding Carrots, transplanting Beetroots into a market bed and seeding Spring Onions, Onions and Beetroots in the Nursery. Our Garlic Crop is looking very healthy and is another month or two away from being harvested, cured and stored for year round sales.
