Returning to the Farmer’s Market<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We are excited to announce that we will return to the Mount Gambier Farmer’s Market this Saturday May 10. This is the annual Mother’s Day market so there will be a broad range of stalls for attendees to enjoy. Evan and Jill will both attend the market offering a range of seasonal vegetables as well as our full range of supplements. We look forward to seeing our loyal customers this Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The recent lull in production gave us some time to work on the farm in general and we have done a power of work over the last month. As seen in the photo above we have buried all of our irrigation pipes, topped up the mulch on all of our paths (a huge task) and received delivery of a truck load of compost. As we are a no-till operation we top dress our beds rather than dig in our compost. The bottom 4 beds in the photo have been top-dressed and every bed in the garden will receive the same over the next few months as we turn over crops and replant them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our produce is featured on the menu at the\u00a0Nelson Hotel<\/a>\u00a0and customers are welcome to come and visit the farm to take a look and purchase vegetables Monday to Saturday between 11:00 am and 6:00 pm.

Notes From The Garden<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

At Rainbow OMG we recognise the centuries long tradition of Moon Planting. In short the different phases of the Moon correspond to growth in in different parts of plants with about 7 days for each phase. The order is Leaf, Fruit\/Flower, Root and Stop. We find this cycle an excellent tool for planning and scheduling of all the regular tasks needed for a functional farm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are currently in a Fruit\/Flower Week which means planting Flowers, Sugar Snap Peas and Broccoli as well as topdressing our Capsicums with compost.\u00a0Last Week we planted our next succession of Spinach into beds with compost as well as more Lettuce. We also have our Nursery Greenhouse arriving soon which once set up with greatly improve the germination and growth of all our seedlings.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
