The Break Has Arrived<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

After a long and dry Summer the Autumn Break rains have arrived. This signifies the soil receiving a blessing of moisture and rainfall exceeding evaporation until the return of dry season. For us this means far less irrigation requirements and an easier time raising our seedlings. A lot of pressure is released with the Autumn Break and is cause for celebration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interestingly in Australia the official changing of the seasons occurs at the start of certain months rather than when they actually occur. The most recent example is the proclamation that Autumn begins on March 1st. The true start of Autumn is after the Equinox, around March 22, signifying that for the next 6 months Day will be shorter than Night. Most of March is still Summer, in other words. We manage our Organic Market Garden in relation to the true natural cycles, including the phases of the Moon. This is one part of what makes our produce so special, we look forward to offering them to you over the coming months. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notes From The Garden<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Last week was a Root Week in the Lunar Calendar so we Direct Seeded<\/a> Carrots and Beetroots as well as planting a small amount of Garlic and Potatoes. Our previously seeded Carrots and Beetroots have been hand weeded and are growing beautifully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have now entered the Stop week which means no seeds will be sown during this period. Instead we use this week to focus on infrastructure projects, whichever is the most pressing at the time. This week we are focusing on the fences around the Market Garden which requires 2 new gates, vegetation removal, re-tensioning wires and repairing holes. Living in such a beautiful place as Nelson blesses us with wildlife of all description and we need to fence them all out.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
